Project description:

The Moroccan solar program "NOOR" is part of the energy strategy established according to the High Souverain's instructions. This program will be implemented by the construction of solar power plants NOOR Ouarzazate (510 MW CSP and 70 PV), NOOR Tafilalt and Atlas (300 MW PV), NOOR Midelt (300 MW CSP and 300 MW PV), NOOR Laayoune and Boujdour (100 MW PV), NOOR Tata (300 MW and 300 MW in CSP PV) and solar power plants in the economic zones (150 MW PV).

Progress and Expected Timing of Operations

  • 10 May 2013: Under the Effective Presidency of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God Glorify, held in Ouarzazate, the official launch of construction works of the first central NOOR I, with a capacity of 160 MW CSP with storage of 3 hours. The commissioning of this plant is scheduled to end in December 2015;
  • The second tranche of the Ouarzazate solar complex (Noor II and Noor III with a total capacity of 350 MW) is under development, its commissioning is scheduled for 2017;
  • Pre- qualification for the realization of the project NOOR PVI , in Ouarzazate, Laayoune and Boujdour with a total capacity of 170 MW Photovoltaic ;
  • Identification of Tata and Midelt sites.
  • Evaluation of bids for pre-qualification of NOOR Tafilalt 100 MW PV, whose commissioning is scheduled for 2016;
  • Construction of 2,000 MW solar in 2020.

Program financing:

  • Public and private, national and foreign funds,
  • Concessional and non-concessional financing mechanisms, available in the framework of multilateral and bilateral cooperation.
