Morocco has major sedimentary basins whose geology is comparable to that of some oil-producing countries. The available data and the results so far show the existence of a potential that is favorable to the accumulation of oil in the subsurface of the Kingdom.
The Morocco hydrocarbon exploration activity only covers 1/3 of the area covered by its sedimentary basins. The drilling carried out on nationwide average does not exceed 0.05 wells / 100 square kilometer compared to an average of 10 wells/100 Km² around the world. Therefore, we can conclude that the Moroccan subsoil is under-explored.
It should be noted that the development of the oil and gas sector is facing major challenges which include the intensification of exploration to discover exploitable deposits.
Summary of administrative acts of the titles of hydrocarbons
In 2017, 122 administrative deeds relating to research permits and exploration permits and 2 administrative deeds relating to the exploitation of oil and gas concessions were granted. The table above specifies the nature of these deeds:

Four oil agreements were entered into between the National Hydrocarbon Board (ONHYM) and its partners within the framework of the search for and exploitation of hydrocarbons in 2017. These are:
02 decrees granting the exceptional extension of the natural gas concessions entitled:
· 'Gaddari South' to the ONHYM national hydrocarbon board and to the "SDX Energy Morocco (UK) Limited" company;
· 'Meskala' to the ONHYM national hydrocarbon board.
8 permits were granted to ONHYM and its partners and are distributed as follows:
02 decisions granting exploration permits have been signed:

· 'Matarka' to ONHYM and to the "Sound Energy Morocco East Limited' company.
Strategy of the oil and gas sector:
It is essential to attract more foreign investors. In this context, the Department of Energy and Mining plans to launch during the 2017-2021period several actions related to the following large-scale projects:
The planned actions are:
This action will address the current malfunctions, take into consideration non-conventional hydrocarbons, and simplify the procedures relating to hydrocarbons exploration and exploitation projects;
This system will make it possible to strengthen collaboration between this Department and that Office.
