The Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Environment​ is responsible for supplying the country with petroleum products, natural gas, and solid fuels in the best conditions of safety and quality. The Department participates, in collaboration with the organizations concerned, in the preparation and implementation of legislation and regulations, as well as in the monitoring of activities and development programs relating to fuels. In this context, the Department is responsible for:

• Monitoring operations related to the refining and mobilization of oil and gas resources and solid and synthetic fuels;
• Monitoring the operations relating to the regular supply of petroleum products and natural gas to the national market;
• Monitoring the operations related to the supply, storage, transportation, distribution, marketing, and export of oil and gas products and solid and synthetic fuels;
• Ensuring the implementation of strategic stocks and the diversification of products consumed and supply markets
• Monitoring development and equipment programs in the petroleum, liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas sectors;
• Contributing to the implementation of tariff systems for petroleum products and natural gas;
• Organizing the gas and oil market to ensure a climate of competition, and fostering relations with professional bodies;
• Collecting statistical data, set up and manage fuel databases;
• Contributing to the preparation and implementation of cooperation agreements and arrangements in the field of Fuels;
• Conducting prospective studies in the field of Fuels.
