To reflect on the possibility of introducing nuclear power into the national energy mix

The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Sustainable Development (MEMDD) set up in 2009 a Reflection Committee on Electronuclear Energy and Desalination of Seawater (CRED).

Following the guidelines of the MEMDD, the CRED has prepared a first evaluation report of national nuclear infrastructures. This report was submitted to the MEMDD in 2010.

CRED also prepared a self-evaluation report (SER), which covered the 19 areas related to the progress status and  state of development of the country's nuclear infrastructure, in accordance with the methodology recommended by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This report has been validated by the MEMDD.

The SER report  was reviewed by the IAEA's Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR), which took place in October 2015 at the request of MEMDD. The report of this mission, containing recommendations, suggestions and best practices, was officially submitted in early 2016 to the Minister, by the Deputy Director for Nuclear Energy at the IAEA.

It should be noted that an Integrated Work Plan (IWP) for the implementation of the recommendations of the INIR mission has been elaborated, for the 2016-2019period, by the CRED with the experts from the IAEA.

The status of the implementation of these recommendations will be the subject of a comprehensive report that will be drawn up by the CRED in late 2019 / early 2020, with a view to a political decision in 2020, concerning the introduction of nuclear power in Morocco by 2030 and beyond.
