Phosphate industry

Sustainable development is a central component in OCP Group's strategy. Indeed, the Group, which is working towards a sustainable future for its business, for the environment and for communities, has already adapted a large portion of its activities to this vision and to its strategy for the next two decades. This will enable it to continue to transform its entire operation.

One of OCP Group's most important commitments is to become carbon neutral by 2040. To achieve this, OCP is continuously adapting its operations and energy consumption on its production sites. Thus, OCP is aiming for a 50% reduction in total CO2 emissions by 2025 as well as a continuous improvement of air quality by multiplying real-time emission monitoring systems and gas scrubbing units.

OCP Group's operations cover the entire phosphate value chain, from mining to industrial processing to export. It is an integrated chain covering its 4 mining sites, its two processing sites and its network of port facilities. OCP continues to improve its activity by improving the efficiency of its processes and reducing the cost of energy and resources to maximize the value of phosphates.

By 2028, OCP Group is completing its 200 billion dirham investment program, initiated since 2008 and aimed at doubling mining production capacities, tripling industrial processing capacities, improving efficiency and strengthening logistics. This programme also includes investment in infrastructure and digital transformation across the value chain.

During 2020, industrial development projects were impacted by the epidemiological context of the Covid-19 virus. Indeed, the projects have been at a standstill since March 2020, which has affected their initial planning and led to the postponement of their planned operating dates. It should be noted that some projects have gradually resumed their activities.

Achievements during the period 2020-2021 mainly concerned the DAP storage expansion project. This project aims to increase the storage capacity of this substance in the industrial complex of Jorf Lasfar by expanding 4 warehouses with a capacity of 50,000 tons each.

The amount of investment allocated to this project is 563 million dirhams of which 541 million dirhams have already been committed.

The year 2022 will see the implementation of other development projects. These are mainly:

  • Ben Guérir laundry project with an investment amount of MAD 3748 million,
  • Mazinda mining project with an investment envelope of 736 million dirhams. The storage facility related to this project is expected to come into operation in the last quarter of 2022,
  • Ben Guérir mining project, with an investment amount of MAD 274 million,
  • Electrification project of the Guentour region with a total investment of MAD 75 million,
  • Wastewater treatment project "STEP" in Kasbah Tadla, Fkih Bensalah and Khouribga, with an investment amount of MAD 665 million,
  • Programme for the production of three million tons of fertiliser in Jorf Lasfar with an investment budget of MAD 13,721 million,
  • Project of adaptation of NPK fertilizer lines, with an investment amount of MAD 200 million,
  • Seawater desalination project in Jorf Lasfar - Phase II with a specific investment envelope of MAD 380 million
  • PS4 sulphuric acid unit project in Safi, with an investment amount of MAD 1,185 million
